Sofi, “the excuse that’s only half the story” gives this essay its clearest honesty. You show how work can be necessary labor and a shelter that keeps the harder truth from needing to be spoken aloud. The clean house, the laptop, Mallorca, and each Pilates class become evidence of a private rebuilding that carries its own movement, even while public life still feels out of reach. Grateful for the permission you give yourself to call this season enough while refusing to turn readiness into another deadline.

Refusing to turn readiness into another deadline is exactly what I was trying to give myself permission to do, and you named it more clearly than I did while writing it. Thank you for reading it that closely and for restacking it. I’m curious whether there’s a season in your own life you’re still calling not-quite-ready, or if this one just resonated as an observer.
